No, that wasn’t Peyton Manning throwing passes to Eric Decker against the Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium, but it sure must have felt like it.
Never in his two seasons catching passes from Manning while with the Broncos had Decker finished with as many receiving yards in a game as he did in Sunday’s 37-24 Jets win over the Dolphins.
And his quarterback was none other than Geno Smith, the Jets’ maligned second-year player who entered the game having thrown only 10 touchdown passes in 342 attempts this season.
On Sunday, Smith threw three TDs, tying his career high, and perhaps the most important one went to Decker on a 74-yard catch-and-run that cut the Dolphins lead to 24-21 in the third quarter and got the Jets back into a game they looked like they were losing control of.
