The New York Jets’ top priority this offseason was to help out their second-year quarterback Geno Smith, and they were aggressive going out to get him weapons. The most important acquisition on offense for the Jets was getting wide receiver Eric Decker from the AFC Champion Denver Broncos.
Hopefully the acquisition of Decker will make Smith’s second year much better than his first, when he threw 12 touchdown passes to 21 interceptions. In order for Smith and Decker to reach their full potential together, they need time playing together. Unfortunately, in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, they weren’t able to build chemistry and timing together because Decker was unable to play due to his quadriceps injury.

Good news for the Jets on Monday, however, was that although Decker was limited, they looked very good together. In their 7-on-7 drills, Smith played very well, taking a majority of the first-team reps, and his highlight play was a 50-yard pass to Decker. The deep post from Smith to Decker took advantage of Ellis Lankster, who was burnt by Decker. Week 3 of the preseason is the big test for the Jets, as starters will be playing quite a bit, and it will be against the New York Giants, so bragging rights will be on the line.
