New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker hosted a special one-day football camp for kids (grades 1-8) last weekend at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School football field, but he wasn’t the only inspirational person on the field.
Lucas Reiling of New Providence, age 8, a patient of Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside who has been battling brain cancer for seven years, was selected as a “Hatton Wish Participant” for The Citi Eric Decker Football ProCamp event and had the opportunity to meet the Jets wide receiver.
“He really enjoyed being at the camp, watching the kids practice and he especially enjoyed getting his award,” said Amy Reiling, Lucas’ mother. “My son inspires me to respect what people are going through in their own lives. As Lucas’ caretaker, I have become more patient and humbled.”
