Now that the Jets have wrapped up organized team activities and minicamp, they get a break until training camp begins in late July. So this seems like a good time to take stock of their roster. First up is wide receiver Eric Decker.
Key stat: In last year’s season finale, Decker caught 10 passes (on 11 targets) for 221 yards and one touchdown — a strong conclusion to his first year with the Jets.
Strengths: Decker isn’t the fastest or biggest receiver. But he has long been considered a detailed and precise route runner. A hamstring injury slowed him early last season, but once he got healthy, he was able to really showcase his skills. Two games before that 221-yard outburst, Decker had a seven-catch, 100-yard game. The Jets’ season was already doomed by that point, but Decker’s late, strong performances provided early encouragement for 2015. Decker has a reputation as a good blocking receiver, but Pro Football Focus rated him just 62nd among receivers, as a blocker, in 2014. He was 24th in PFF’s overall wide receiver ratings, and 23rd as a pass catcher among wide receivers.
