The one-day Eric Decker Football ProCamp will be held Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at Scotch Plains–Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, NJ.
“Especially being newer to the area, for me it’s so important to get involved with the community,” said Decker, who came to the Jets from the Denver Broncos a year ago. “The kids are really important to me. The next generation is going to change our world. So this is a chance for kids to have some fun, get out for a day and do something active.”
Decker recalls going the camp route himself when he was growing up in a small town in Minnesota, an hour away from Minneapolis.
“We didn’t have many camps, but the ones they offered, I definitely did a lot of summer things, from football to baseball to basketball,” he recalled.
“When I was in elementary school, I looked up to the high school varsity athletes. For some reason, I wanted to be just like them. I watched how they practiced, how they played, and tried to emulate them. I think that just really inspired me and influenced me to take the path that I did.”
And with this camp, Decker is providing some time for schoolchildren to join him in going through football drills and having fun.
