The Jets have high hopes and grand designs for this 2014 season, and it all started with today’s season opener against Oakland.
And after perhaps some opening-day jitters, the Jets rode the crest of several trends to first take the fight out of the Silver & Black to open up a lead, then hang tough in the end game for their 19-14 triumph over the Raiders at MetLife Stadium.
“Our fans were awesome, absolutely awesome,” said Rex Ryan, who enjoyed the effects of a noisy sellout crowd and a stadium “Whiteout” added to the Green & White effort. “That’s what homefield advantage is supposed to be, and it was today. I want to compliment our fans. They were better than our team today.”

One continuing trend was Geno Smith’s showing at QB. He had his ups and downs, turning the ball over twice on successive first-half possessions.

But he was on target all game with new receivers Eric Decker, Chris Johnson and Jace Amaro and old reliables Jeremy Kerley and Jeff Cumberland and led the offense on four scoring drives, although one was a one-play Chris Ivory masterpiece mentioned below.
